Welcome to the next edition of "Elginsider: The Inside Scoop," where each week a staff member from Elgin County Economic Development & Tourism will share the inside scoop on life in Elgin County!
There are two seasons in the year that are a home decorators dream, the first we will get to in a few months, the second is fall y’all.
Fall kicked off in style this past weekend with many of our local businesses hosting fall open houses including Family Flowers. Their porch package has everything you need to make your porch picture perfect, including a straw bale, two large garden mums, purple fountain grass, a bundle of corn, a hefty pumpkin, two pie pumpkins, three large Indian corn and a straw wreath. For those of you in an apartment or with a small porch, don’t fear there is the balcony package for you!
Who doesn’t love a good gourd? Look for locally grown Butters Farms pumpkins, gourds, ornamental corn and mini bales. Did you know they grow over 1600 acres of our favourite fall items in Elgin County? Make sure to check the sticker to see if your gourds are from Butters Farms.
Not sure where to start, or don’t have the time to put it all together, Canadale Nurseries makes it easy with ready to go fall planters. These pre-made planters have everything you need to add that touch of fall colour, with mums, cabbage and fountain grass, these planters will make a big impact.
Make sure to keep your eyes on Howe Family Farm Market as they are developing some fascinating new varieties of pumpkins in their test plots.
Fall in Elgin County is crackling fires, crunchy leaves, hot apple cider, crisp mornings, chilly nights, and of course pumpkin everything!
Remember to support local because local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbours! They care about and are invested in the well-being of your community and its future.
